WHY INVEST INTO MUTUAL
FUNDS?
EASE OF ADMINISTRATION
Even assuming investors have
the resources to hold a portfolio of say 20 securities, the associated
administration is more than most investors are prepared to take on i.e.
the purchase and sale of individual securities (say 10 transactions
per annum), the holding of share certificates / statements, the receipt
of say 20 dividends per annum, dealing with the tax implications of
the portfolio, rights issues etc.
Funds solve this problem. With
a single fund holding, the investor will only buy and sell the security
once, will hold one share certificate or statement, will possibly only
receive one dividend per annum, and will not have to worry about any
aspect of managing the underlying portfolio.
The fund management company is
paid to carry out both the management and the administrative functions
and this should not be ignored in assessing the fees they charge.
